Lopi Lettlopi Icelandic wool - authenticity and quality
Lopi Lettlopi is a unique 100% Icelandic wool yarn, renowned for its exceptional properties. Icelandic sheep wool has two layers of fibre: the inner layer is soft and warm and the outer layer is long and moisture resistant. As a result, garments knitted from Lettlopi are lightweight yet incredibly warm and provide excellent protection against wind and light rain.
Why choose Lettlopi?
- Authenticity: This is the main yarn for traditional Icelandic patterned sweaters.
- Versatility: while the yarn looks strong and rustic, it softens after the first wash, leaving the knit fluffy and cosy.
- Quality and safety: the yarns carry the Standard 100 OEKO-TEX mark, which guarantees that no harmful materials have been used in their production.
- Colours: from natural, earthy shades to vibrant natural colours, it's easy to find a combination for your project.
Care recommendations: how to care for Lettlopi knitwear?
Icelandic wool has unique antibacterial properties, so you don't need to wash your Icelandic wool garments often - simply airing them out in the fresh air is often enough. However, if you do need to wash it, please follow these rules:
- Hand wash only: Wash in lukewarm water (not above 30°C).
- Special measures: use only detergents designed for wool (ideally those with lanolin).
- Careful washing: don't soak too long, don't rub or spin. Gently press the knitted garment in water to get rid of dirt.
- Removing water: wrap the washed knitted fabric in a dry towel and press firmly to absorb the moisture. Never wring over the sink with force.
- Drying: dry only when lying flat horizontally on a dry towel, giving the garment its original shape. Do not dry in direct sunlight or on a radiator.
- Tip: The first wash is the „magic“ moment for Lettlopi wool. Immediately after knitting, the yarn may look rough, but once washed and dried, the fibre relaxes, the mesh flattens and the knit becomes soft and fluffy.
