Eucalan - when washing knitwear finally stops being a problem
It's probably a familiar situation for many - you have your favourite a woollen jumper, it's fine until one day, after a wash, it's... no more. Sometimes it gets smaller, sometimes it loses its shape, and sometimes I just don't want to wear it anymore because I don't feel like it. And this is not a rarity. Knitwear in general is quite sensitive. You have to be a bit more careful with them, even though at first sight it looks like „oh, it all washes the same“. It is precisely because of these situations that people start looking for different solutions. One of them is Eucalan. It's basically a detergent, but not the kind we're used to get used to it.
What's different than usual?
The first thing that many people find strange is that it does not need to be rinsed. It doesn't sound very normal, because I've always been taught that you have to rinse your detergent well. But in this case, things work a little differently. You add it to the water, put it in the knitted fabric, give it a little soak and that's it. You take it out, squeeze the water and leave it to dry. No more hassle. And, what most interesting, the fabric does not feel „dirty“ or coated afterwards. On the contrary, it remains soft.
Why is this important for knitwear?
Wool or cashmere has its own structure. If you break it, that's it, you can't go back. Ordinary detergents are often too strong and wash away the natural oils, leaving the fibres dry. Eucalan has a gentler effect here. It contains lanolin, the same substance naturally found in wool. This not only keeps the knitted fabric clean after washing, but also maintains its softness. It's not a catchphrase - it's just that you can actually feel the difference.
Usage - without any „science“
Sometimes it seems that special products mean more complex use. But it's just simpler than with regular detergents. No rinsing cycles, no extra instruments. Just:
- water
- a little detergent
- soaking for a few minutes
That's it. There's no need to rub or move the fabric in any way.
Not just for jumpers
Although it is most often discussed in the context of knitwear, in reality Eucalan used elsewhere. For example, in silk, underwear or even baby clothes. Especially if you have more sensitive skin - then these things work. There is no that strong smell, which is sometimes even annoying.
Fragrances - subtle, not too strong
By the way, smell is also an interesting thing. There are variants with lavender, eucalyptus, citrus. But they are not the kind where it hits immediately. It's more of a light, barely perceptible scent. And it doesn't linger too strongly on the garment, which is a plus for many.
Is it worth switching to such a detergent?
But if you've ever ruined a good sweater, you're likely to want to get rid of itIf you have one sweater, you might not think twice. But if you have more than one, if you like quality fabrics, or even if you knit it yourself, then you'll definitely feel the difference. Eucalan is no miracle, but it does what it's supposed to do - let the knitwear stay the way you want to see it for longer. Sometimes that is enough. Just the sort of thing that, once you try it, you know if it works for you. For some it becomes a daily choice, others go back to the usual means. And this is where Eucalan usually does not disappoint.
