Opal Wool and Polyamide Sock Yarn

The Opal yarn category contains two 6-ply and 8-ply options made from 75% wool and 25% polyamide. Both balls weigh 150 g, but the yarn weight, metreage and recommended needle size differ, so choose according to the gauge and intended use of your project.

What is the difference between the Opal yarns?

• REGENWALD 19. This 6-ply yarn contains 420 m / 150 g, and the recommended needle size is 3–4 mm. The fibre content is 75% wool and 25% polyamide.
• XL FROSTY ICE. This thicker 8-ply yarn contains 320 m / 150 g, and the recommended needle size is 4–4.5 mm. Its fibre content is also 75% wool and 25% polyamide.
• Care. Both options have a Superwash treatment and can be machine washed on a gentle cycle at up to 40°C without fabric softener; dry flat.

How do you choose Opal yarn?

Choose the finer 6-ply option for a lighter fabric and the 8-ply yarn for thicker socks or other warmer projects. Check the pattern gauge, knit a swatch and calculate the total metreage before starting. Compare more sock yarns, wool yarns, yarns containing polyamide and multicolour yarns.
