Description

Rauma Røros Brodergarn – Norwegian wool yarn for embroidery and weaving

Rauma Røros Brodergarn is made at the Rauma Garn mill in Norway. It is a firmly twisted, two-ply wool yarn, designed primarily for embroidery, weaving and decorative textiles.

Why choose Røros Brodergarn?

  • Raw material: the yarn is spun from the wool of Norwegian Spelsau sheep. The longer, naturally lustrous fibres give the yarn strength and a distinctive surface.
  • Versatility: the two-ply yarn is suitable for wool embroidery, tapestry, decorative weaving, tablet-woven and patterned bands.
  • Stable structure: the firm twist helps create clear details and retain the shape of the finished piece.
  • Care: gentle hand washing in cool water and drying flat are recommended.

The yarn is suitable for historical costume reconstructions, traditional dress and artistic textile projects where a strong strand and authentic appearance matter.

What is important to know?

Røros Brodergarn is not a classic soft knitting yarn. It is more firmly twisted and stiffer, so the finished fabric will be stable with a dry handle.

Knitting

This is a fine yarn with 500 m per 100 g. Held single, it produces a lightweight yet durable fabric.

  • Recommended needles: 2.0–3.0 mm, depending on the desired fabric density.
  • Knitting characteristics: the less elastic strand helps define stranded-colourwork and textured patterns.
  • Uses: fine wool mittens, socks, waistcoats and traditional jumpers where a durable, slightly coarser texture is desired.
  • Tip: for a loftier fabric, hold two strands together and use 3.5–4.5 mm needles.

Crochet

The firmly twisted strand helps crocheted projects retain a clear shape.

  • Recommended hook: 1.5–2.5 mm.
  • Crochet characteristics: the firmly twisted strand resists splitting, so stitches look clear and graphic.
  • Uses: collars, small bags, decorative details and wool lace.
  • Also suitable for Tunisian crochet when a woven-like surface is desired.

Please note

Traditional wool may feel coarser on sensitive skin. Before starting a project, knit or crochet a swatch and wash it according to the manufacturer’s care instructions.
